The Australian Peak Shippers Association is the designated peak shipper body granted status by the Federal Minister of Shipping under Part X of the Trade Practices Act to represent the interest of Australian exporters generally in relation to outwards liner cargo shipping services.
The first objective of Part X is to ensure that Australian Exporters have continued access to outwards liner cargo shipping services of adequate frequency and reliability, at freight rates that are internationally competitive.
The second objective is to promote conditions in the international liner cargo shipping industry that encourage stable access to export markets for exporters in all States and Territories.
Services/ActivitiesThe three main roles of the Association are:
- To ensure that exporters have the opportunity to negotiate with Conferences and major Consortia on Minimum levels of service.
- To ensure that Exporters through their representative shipper body have the opportunity to negotiate freight rates and;
- To ensure that Conferences and major Consortia provide information reasonable necessary for the purpose of negotiations.
