Malaysia National Shippers' Council (MNSC)


Background


The Malaysian National Shippers’ Council (MNSC) was established in 1972 with 19 members comprising of commodity and trade associations and several government ministries and agencies related to shipping. Its main role is to protect shippers against high shipping costs and seek a more efficient system in transport operations.
Objectives:

  • To protect, represent and promote the interests of Malaysian importers and exporters, producers, manufacturers, trade and industry associations, and commodity associations in relation to the transportation of goods.
  • To secure the greatest possible cooperation among Malaysian exporters and importers, producers, manufacturers, trade and industry association, commodity associations, manufacturers and any other entities concerned with the transportation of goods.
  • To bring together exporters and importers, producers, manufacturers, trade and industry associations, commodity associations and manufacturers in all parts of Malaysia on a common platform for consultations on transportation problems affecting them.
  • To search for more efficient systems in transport operations with the aim to reduce costs.
  • To seek alternative means of shipment where feasible.
  • To suggest measures for the long-term improvement and development of shipping and other transport services to serve Malaysia’s trade.
  • To enter into such consultations and/or negotiations, as may be deemed necessary to ship owners and conferences with regard to the arrangements for, and the terms and conditions applicable to overseas cargo shipping, including Terminal Handling Charge (THC) and other surcharges.

Membership


Ordinary Members
Individuals, associations and organizations of exporters/importers, producers/ manufacturers established in Malaysia which are concerned with matters on import and export trade, and also Government agencies, which in the opinion of the Management Committee of the Council, can contribute towards the achievement of the Council.

Associate Members
Other companies, associations, societies and individuals who subscribe to the objectives of the Council but otherwise considered ineligible for ordinary membership.
